Wow, another thing I've always presumed was universal. Obviously not. A Pom is a British person. We grew up calling all British people Poms, and all Americans Yanks. Or Septic Tanks. Or Septics. So if an Australian says to you "how ya goin' me ol' Septic?" they're not being rude. But it doesn't happen that much any more.
