She's published more than 20 novels, all that deal with cutting-edge topics, and many of which have been best sellers. In this interview, she talks about her characters, her research, and future books she'd like to write. We hope you enjoy.
What did you most get out of this interview that you could apply to your own writing? Do you have a favorite Jodi Picoult novel?

Great morning at the movies, Sharon. I've read several of Jodi's books. Each one is different, but the common thread is their timeliness. She deals with things that we are wrestling with in modern society. She doesn't always come down on the side I would, but I enjoy the ride and the push to consider other points of view.
I will take from this the importance of first-person research, which I love.
I agree with everything you said, Patti. I do enjoy reading her books, even though I don't always agree with her. The Storyteller is very good, by the way.
Thanks for posting this Sharon, really interesting stuff. It's amazing being able to listen to interviews from such prolific and established writers.
I'm quite taken by her idea at the end of a novel in reverse. I read something similar once - not quite in reverse, but told in such large chunks of fore-telling that when the pages ran out and you thought "but what HAPPENS!" you realise you already knew. I loved it.
Now I need to shut my brain up enough to write the boring old "start from the beginning..." method again :)
I know, Megan, I thought it was a very intriguing idea too. I hope she pulls it off some day. I also watched an interview of her talking about a YA novel she wrote with her daughter -- the idea coming from her daughter. I think that is so cool. Brian and I talked about writing a book together some day. I wish we had.
